About Ryan Newton Racing
Born to Race.
Built to Win.
From BMX tracks to Go Karts, from Formula 500 to full-time Sprintcars — Ryan Newton’s journey through motorsport has been defined by raw talent, relentless drive, and a family that lives and breathes racing.
The Beginning
WHERE IT ALL STARTED
Ryan started his racing career at the age of 12. After two years competing in BMX, he decided to try Go Karts — and it didn’t take long for his natural ability to become impossible to ignore.
He began in Cadet 12, racing a Tony Kart with a mini rock engine. Within three months he’d moved up a class into KA4, jumping into a JC Go Kart with a K100 engine provided by Craig from CRX Racing Engines. Racing mainly at Gympie and Ipswich, the wins came quickly.
During his first full year of racing in KA4, Ryan entered the Australian Titles and finished 9th overall. For all five events, he’d leave school and travel to the tracks with his family to compete across Friday, Saturday and Sunday — then head home and straight back to the classroom.

THE FULL STORY
2016
Go Karting – The Early Years
Ryan competed in Go Karts for three years in total, quickly establishing himself as one of the quickest young drivers in Queensland. Racing across circuits including Gympie, Ipswich, Mackay, Gladstone and Bundaberg, he racked up multiple wins and podiums.
One of his standout achievements was winning the KA4 Junior State Title final round in Mackay. The following year, he won the final at both Gladstone and Bundaberg — though after being taken out in an earlier race, he narrowly lost the overall title on points.
His natural speed was undeniable. During a family holiday in Bundaberg, Ryan flew in on the Friday, jumped into a KA3 Junior Class car early Saturday morning — just in time for qualifying — and qualified 2nd. Despite losing a wheel in the preliminary final, he went on to finish 2nd in the main race.

Formula 500 – Stepping up to Speedway
After three years in Go Karts, it was time to move on. Ryan is always looking to compete at the highest level possible, pushing himself into new categories to sharpen his skills.
He moved onto Speedway and, due to only being 15 at the time, had to start in Junior Formula 500. Straight away he was competitive, pushing the established fast runners and beating them regularly.
At 16, Ryan stepped up to Senior Formula 500. His second-ever race meeting in Seniors was the State Titles in Ayr. With his Dad as mechanic, along with his Mum and sister, the family headed north to gain further experience. Coming 3rd in the feature race was a remarkable result — just his second outing in the senior class.
Ryan continued racing that year at Brisbane Archerfield and Toowoomba, competing against well-qualified opposition. Despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic limiting travel, he made every race count. His determination showed through even in the setbacks — after a broken shock left him off the pace at a State round at Archerfield, he spun out on the first lap and had to restart from the rear. In true Ryan fashion, he drove all the way back up through the field.
NOW
Sprintcars – Full Time & Full Throttle
Ryan is now a full-time Sprintcar driver, competing in over 150 events each season across both Australia and the United States. Behind the wheel of a methanol-powered Maxim chassis, he’s chasing the biggest events in Australian Sprintcar racing.
His instinctive feel for speed, precision and control — evident from his very first outings — has only sharpened with experience. From his earliest days in Go Karts through to the dirt ovals of Australian Speedway, Ryan has proven he can adapt and excel in any form of motorsport.
The mission is clear: consistently compete for and win Australia’s marquee Sprintcar events, year after year, while building a lasting legacy as one of the nation’s premier drivers.
